How to Check for EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) Adaptability
Please follow the steps below to determine the compatibility of EDFC.
(1) Access 'PRODUCT SEARCH' pages of our website to find out if EDFC is compatible with your vehicle and damper kit.
(2) If compatibility information is not listed, proceed with the followings to determine if EDFC can be used or not.
(For vehicle / damper kit that EDFC compatibility is NOT confirmed by TEIN, please install and use at your own risk. Manufacturer's limited warranty is void in such case.)
(3) If EDFC is found to be compatible with your vehicle / damper kit and you wish to install tower bar as well, please go on to the next step.
How to Check for EDFC compatibility on Not-Tested Vehicle
You can find out whether or not EDFC is compatible with your vehicle and/or damper kit by following the procedures below.
(1) Check if piston rod top is threaded all the way to the end.
(If the end has non-threaded part, EDFC can not be attached.)
Please refer to the diagrams below.

(2) Measure the protruding part of piston rod, the length between the edge of nut to the tip of rod, as shown below.
This length needs to be more than 7mm.

(3) Check if there is enough clearance above and around piston rod top. There needs to be over 24mm space above the top end of 'click' assembly AND space 50mm across centering around piston rod, so that EDFC motor does not interfere with the hood and/or interior.

As shown above, the space indicated is the minimum clearance required for EDFC motor installation. Depending on upper mount used, motor might move vertically thus enough clearance needs to be secured. When installing motor, avoid interference with surrounding parts. Removal of an/or modification to supportive devices around piston rod top, insulator and/or interior might be required. EDFC might not be used in combination with tower bar set up across piston rod. Installation onto vehicles/dampers, on which TEIN did not confirm compatibility, should be done at your own risk. TEIN assumes NO responsibility and warranty is void for such installation.
How to Check for Compatibility of Tower/Strut Bar
You can find out whether or not tower/strut bar can be installed onto your vehicle and/or with damper kit, on which we confirm EDFC compatibility, by following the procedures below.
(1) Check if there is enough clearance above and around piston rod top. There needs to be over 24mm space above the top end of 'click' assembly AND space 50mm across centering around piston rod.
·Size of motor is 35 ×35mm, thus 35mm radius might be enough if motor is installed at the specified angle. However, if piston rod rotates, such as Ft strut type, I.D.50mm clearance is required.

(2) Removal of and/or modification to interior might be required, depending upon structure of tower bar.
About Pillow Nut for EDFC Installation
Please check the height of pillow nut, before installing EDFC motor.
EDFC compatibility is confirmed only with the nut of 8mm high, use of taller nut and/or other manufacturer's nut might disable EDFC installation. Be sure to check nut size before installation.
(Some of nuts provided by TEIN might be of 12mm high and in such case EDFC motor can not be installed. Please use the 8mm one.)
If you would like to have damper modified to be EDFC compatible at the time of overhaul, please be sure to send in shock absorber, pillow ball upper mount AND pillow nut.
(There would be extra charge for disassembly of spring from shock absorber. Please disassemble and send only the parts mentioned above, to avoid such extra fee.)
